Penrose-512
The Penrose-512 is a scouting vessel of the People's Navy of the Eusan Nation that was crewed by Ariane Yeong and Elster.
Interior Maps[edit | edit source]
There are multiple variants of the interior of the Penrose 512.
Penrose-512 (intro), this is the version of the Penrose we play in the intro of the game.
Penrose-512 (fakeout), this is the version of the Penrose we play in during the memory sequence.
Penrose-512 (End), this is the version of the Penrose in Ende.
Lore[edit | edit source]
General Lore[edit | edit source]
The Penrose-type vessels were a class of low-cost space exploration vessels in the Eusan People's Navy developed for Operation Penrose--a series of manned probe missions to the Oort Cloud with the mission of finding celestial bodies that were either capable of habitation or rich in natural resources for future klimaforming and colonisation to support the continuous growth of the Eusan Nation.
The space vessel type 'Penrose' was celebrated as "the pride of the Eusan Nation" by the Peoples Navy in state propaganda, with Operation Penrose ultimately being designed to be a 'glorious' demonstration of the Nation's power regardless of how successful the missions may turn out to be.
Phase 1[edit | edit source]
Phase 1 is the initial phase of the Penrose Mission, assumedly covering the duration of the mission from the Penrose's launch to the beginning of phase 2 and the final approach to the Oort Cloud. As the Penrose transits to the edge of the solar-system, the crew is given the opportunity to acclimatise to life aboard the vessel and get acquainted with one another.
Phase 2[edit | edit source]
Phase 2 begins 1500 Cycles into the mission. As outlined by the Penrose briefing: Phase 2 document, this phase marks the final approach to the Oort Cloud and the beginning of the search for planets or moons fit for habitation or rich in natural resources.
Penrose-type vessels are equipped with long-range sensors capable of probing for valuable resources or the appropriate conditions for human inhabitation, with the ability for the Gestalt-Pilot to adjust the course of the ship to approach prospective planetary bodies and, if appropriate, even land.
The phase 2 briefing also entertains the discovery of signs of alien life when discussing the priorities for scouting using the long-range sensors, where perhaps the discovery of another source of life outside the solar-system triggers protocols that override any other objectives of the Penrose missions.
Phase 3-The End[edit | edit source]
Phase 3 begins at 3000 Cycles, or ~2827 Vinetan days, or ~7.74 years. This is the final stage of the Penrose Program, and is the stage where decay of ship, Replika, and Gestalt begins. In this stage the original Elster on Penrose-512 passed away. [1]
This stage is considered by the state to be one of failure, and that if this stage begins then it can be assumed the program did not find a suitable planet for klimaforming, and rather that the ship is just going to drift off into space and its inhabitants will die.
Datamining and Debug[edit | edit source]
Pulled Textures[edit | edit source]
Shown Above are some pulled textures of the Penrose. Both its snow variant and its clean.
Hidden/Cut Rooms[edit | edit source]
Some rooms in the Penrose Intro are inaccessible by normal means. however using Debug one can teleport inside these rooms to view what's in them. Doing so unlocks 3 rooms that are usually not accessible until far later into the game. In these rooms is another puzzle that has since been removed as well as the hints on how to solve it[2]. These rooms and puzzle originally were part of the Demo. [3]
Storage[edit | edit source]
This room is where one would have obtained some light supplies, as well as the note which solves the reaktor puzzle. It is a simple room with some boxes
Medical[edit | edit source]
This room is a small medical room, that is very close in appearance to the later medical room reached during Ende, It has a small note about the Penrose.
Reaktor[edit | edit source]
This is a different version of the Reaktor Room, which much like the Ende Version shows the pipes leaking, it also contains a puzzle within it.
The Reaktor Puzzle.[edit | edit source]
The Reaktor Puzzle is fairly simple, requiring one to balance temperature and output of energy, kind of similar to how the Fuse Puzzle works later in the game. The puzzle features 5 rods, 4 of which players can move, with the goal being to balance the energy to a perfect level while also not overheating the system.

It should be noted the K here stands for Kelvin. [4]
Solving it can be done by finding the scribbled note in the other cut room, Storage. The scribbled note tells part of the solution.[5] Which you can then use to eyeball your way to the final solution, which finds values of 10,320mw and 698K.
It was likely removed for several reasons.
- The beginning of the game, and the initial Penrose in general does not match the atmosphere of a loud blinking, failing reactor.
- The puzzle, while not incredibly difficult would not be as welcoming to new players as the cryo puzzle is. This may deter players from playing further and engrossing themselves into the game.
- The reaktor failing would allude to the player much sooner that all is not as it seems in this game, a reveal that is better fit for the later cutscene with the king in yellow.
- Its original inclusion was for the Demo to showcase the game, however in the full blown game its ideas were likely used to make the later Fuse puzzle.
Debug Secrets[edit | edit source]
Using Debug we can learn that the memory sequence of the game and the fakeout ending sequence occur within the same zone, and if one uses /map they can see "???" indicating the version of the Penrose that appears following Elster's revival. Meaning one can use /goto to travel from the beginning of the memory to the Elster jumping down the hole if they so wished.
