Kitezh is the third planet in the solar system, as well as the third inhabited body. It is a desert planet under the occupation of the Empire. [1]

When interacting with the orrery Elster remarks:
Kitezh, the red desert. The Imperial fleet can only hold it for so long before it will be liberated. [2]
It is depicted in a piece of national propaganda, where it is established as an objective for liberation by the Nation. [3]
It is mentioned by the Dreamer in the Dream Diary:
6th Night.
I dreamt I was an imperial farmer.
I embraced my lover in the red deserts of Kitezh, when a storm consumed us,
the sand grinding us down until nothing remained.[1]
It is also mentioned as being a location where the Imperial fleet is of particular strength, allowing them to blockade the repair of Vineta. [4]
Theory - Kitezh is Mars[edit]
Part of the larger theory which states that the game takes place within our solar system, it asserts that Kitezh is the equivalent to the planet Mars. This is supported by the fact that it is described as a planet of red sands, as well as its location relative to Vineta (which is speculated to represent Earth) and other planets.

Kitezh (Russian: Ки́теж) is a mythical city mentioned in Russian Folktales. The legend goes that as the city was about to be conquered by Mongolian invaders, the inhabitants prayed for salvation and a flood submerged the city, protecting them while driving away the attackers. [5]
